1Hey Greg,
2As usual, I only have a few questions. ^^;
31) How old can Matoran really be? And can they die because of age? Accoarding to the Metru-Nui/Mata-Nui timelines, the Matoran must be more than thousand years old. O_o
42) Why do the Turaga still remember Metru-Nui and not the Matoran? It's highly unlikely that even a Matoran would forget such a huge event.
53) Was there a connection between the Bahrag and Makuta?
64) Will we find out next year, what happened to the villagers of Metru-Nui? And can you tell us if they all died or something else happened?
75) It says the Matoran were put into slumber. Does this means a gigantic force roamed over the island at that time (Possible Ultimate Dume) and used his incredible force to put the whole island in sleep? Why didn't it just destroy everything instead of putting them into sleep?
86) Will we find out in the movie, the whole trip back and forth from Metru-Nui to Mata-Nui?
97) Is it possible the Toa Olda (Tahu, Gali, etc.) were Matoran before being Toa, and there is a slight chance they could become Turaga in the future?
108) What happens after being Turaga? Will the current Turaga (Vakama, etc.) die when new ones come?
119) Did more Matoran on Mata-Nui die before Jaller's death? If not, why are there so few deaths on Mata-Nui?
1210) Did many Matoran die on Metru-Nui in the thousands of years while it existed? If not, why not?
13Thanks for your time. ^_^

14TM

151) They are easily thousands of years old. 162) The Matoran's memories were wiped by trhe same power that shrank them down to McDonald's toy size. The Toa Metru never went through that. 173) Not on the Bahrag's side, they don't even know who Makuta is. If there was a connection the other way, no one has told me about it. 184) You will not have to wait long to find out about the Metru Nui Matoran. 195) Watch the movie 206) No. Part of that is being covered in the novels, and the rest is being told on a bigger scale 217) It is possible, but I have no official word that they were ever Matoran and I personally do not think they were. And yes, any Toa can conceivably become a Turaga. 228) No idea. But I doubt you die the second there is someone to replace you. 239) Mainly, because killing characters is not something we do lightly. Also, keep in mind that Makuta was not out to kill the Matoran -- he was out to dominate them. You can't rule corpses. If he had wanted them dead, I am sure a bunch would have died before the Toa arrived. 2410) Some very well may have, due to accidents. But I have no hard figures. There is an intriguing clue to Matoran pre-history in Book 6 that may bear on this, and involves the origin of the term "Karzahni."

1Ooohh, nice questions, TM. Can't wait for Book 6:
21. In response to the questions about the Guide, you said 'I don't have a name for them, but they actually lighthouses. In ages past, there used to be a lot of sea traffic between Metru Nui and other islands.' Do you mean there used to be contact between Metru Nui and the environs?
31) Yes
42. Why did the traffic between the other islands and Metru Nui stop?
52) A while ago. Dume ordered all the passages sealed.
63. I was searching on Amazon.com to see if I could pre-order Voyage when I discovered something far more interesting. Bionicle Adventures #7, Web of the Visorak. Two questions about this. Is this 'Visorak' a Rahi or another type of being?
73-4) I cannot answer either of these, relates to '05 storyline.
84. Is the Visorak intelligent?
95. In another previous Guide question, I asked about a Kanoka Chart, and I didn't phrase my question in the best way. What I mean is a chart of combinations. For example, you said growth and regenaration combined made Shielding. So what combinations make levitation, and weight-increase? (Of course, the chart would have to stop somewhere, since you could always combine the basic 8 Kanoka with already combined Kanoka, and already combined Kanoka with already combined Kanoka, and then those Kanoka...)
105) I knew what you meant. It's not done yet.
116. How do memory crystals store information? Do Matoran speak into them, is it kind of a telepathic recorder, or some other form of storing information? I'd like to know because I'm writing some short stories of Matoran's lives on Metru Nui and I want to use this in it.
126) I see it as being more of a telepathic deal, myself.
137. What BA book are you currently writing?
147) BIONICLE Adventures #7
158. Just out of curiosity, could you possibly tell us the titles of Bionicle adventures #8 or #9?
168) No, they don't have titles yet.
179. In the news article about the Comic-Con with the spoilers, in the second paragraph, it says "The mighty Toa were thought to protect the Matoran. But an evil shadow kept eliminating them one by one and that shadow hungered for power over the entire city." Does that mean the shadow eliminated Lhikan's fellow Toa?
189) It means that the other Toa vanished, or were sent on missions and never came back. And Vakama basically ties all of that in with what happened in Metru Nui.
1910. Does 'eliminated' mean kill? Capture? Or something else?
2010) Means they were gone. Vakama most likely does not know what happened to them.

1Another one question without answer - If whole the matorans lived before on metru-nui, so why they cant remember Lhikan and Turaga in Toa Metru form? ( according to that Vakama told matoran a story about lhii the surfer. they should remember lhikan:). I think makuta erased memory of all the matorans, except Toa metru.am i correct? 2Thanks in Advance

3Yes.

5If ya dont know who erased matorans memory now you know
#1804
12. Why did the traffic between the other islands and Metru Nui stop?
22) A while ago. Dume ordered all the passages sealed.
3Try to read other members questions. few posts above it Greg answered me about that. look:

4Why Turaga Dume closed water paths to other islands?

53) Because he knew a crisis was coming.

1ToP, You don't have to double post, just edit the post, you can do that now.

1Hi, Greg. Now that we've seen the Comic-Con spoilers, I'm going to flat-out ask you:
2Is Dume evil?
3thanks.
4torritorri

5I know there is a great deal of evidence that he is which came out of the movie clips .. but I would strongly suggest you reserve judgment on Dume, rightful ruler of Metru Nui, until you see the movie. Things are not always as they seem in the city of legends ...

2"Rightful" ruler? Almost sounds like someone might raise questions about whether he is. Interesting choice of phrasing there.

1Just one question today:

2I read in the Official GregF section that you said "I would strongly suggest you reserve your judgment on Dume, rightful ruler of Metru-Nui,...". So I was wondering, in the movie, is the Turaga Dume the Toa Metru see the real Turaga Dume? I'm thinking Makuta got rid of the real Dume and transformed to be him. So...is it really Dume the toa visit?

3Thanx:

5As everyone is no doubt tired of hearing from me ... watch the movie :)
6Greg

7Hm. That's makes me even more suspicious.

8Yeah, it makes him look even more suspicious with that Ultimate Dume around. :sly:
#1810
1Are we even sure that the name is Ultimate Dume? I mean, that could just be the name of the combinder set, and the actual combinder could have a very different name.
2Points to whoever understood what I just said. :P
#1811
1I can't see why Lego would want to promote two names for Ultimate Dume. It'd be like calling Takutanuva Ultimate Takanuva and also Ultimate Makuta at the same time. It's too confusing.
2And even more points to whoever understands what I just said.
#1812
1Well Heres some questions I asked:

2Hello,
31.What is the use of the mask included in the Ultimate Dume Set?
42.What info can you say to us about B2?(Even Spoilers)
53.Why is Lhikan's Hau Different from the Tahu's Hau and some other matoran's Hau?
64.Is Ultimate Dume the combination of Turaga Dume,Nidhiki and Kreeka? or just a souped up version of Dume?
75.Only one will die this year?if not How many?
86.any hints about 2005?

9thanks, 10Juan_CD

111) It's the mask he uses in the movie.
122) Nothing beyond what is already on BZP.
133) Basically, we did not want to do the same mask yet again. And besides, you have no way of knowing when Lhikan's Hau was made. It could have been 1500 years before Tahu's, 500 years after, who knows? Styles change.
14Greg

15and another:
16Hi, 17just some Questions
181. How many sets for this year are not yet relesed?
192. Who/What is Visorak?
203. will Ultimate Dume be Defeated in B2?
214. will Lhikan die in B2?
225. When will Makuta Arrive and make chaos?
23Thanks, 24Juan_CD

251) The Lhikan/Kikanalo set is the only 2004-series set not yet released. 262-5) I cannot answer these, because they relate either to movie plot of 2005 storyline, neither one of which I am allowed to discuss.
27Greg

28he didn't answer most of it, because its in the B2/2005 Plot
29That's all

1Hi two questions
2In the MOL at the end when the beam of light went across the water and to the island I thought is was mertu-nui and in the comics it made sence that because the matoran where building boats to take them across the silver sea and the silver sea started out somewhere in the ocean but now that I know that mertu-nui is under mata-nui is that island that the beam of light is going to is that island some sort of top secret island having to do with another story line or was some one just messing with our heads?
3I herd that the vakhi where going through some canges later on in the story thanks to your wicked mind so I am guessing that these changes are going to be when the toa nuva arive on mata-nui right?
4thanx for answers

51) No, that was Metru Nui. Think of the island of Mata Nui like a basketball filled with liquid -- Metru Nui floats in the liquid inside the ball.
62) I can't discuss future storyline, sorry.
7Greg

8he didnt quite answer my #1 question I guess I'll try again later
#1814
1Radical Edward, check out the pic in my artwork topic, "Bionicle Dome", link in sig. You'll understand where all that stuff is. The Silver sea is in the dome below the ocean around Mata Nui. The boats have to be brought down through the caves, to get to the Silver Sea. Remember in the MOL how Takanuva went underground to get to Makuta's lair? Well, after opening that door and going through, and sending the beam to Metru Nui, they were still right next to Makuta's lair. Thus, they were still underground. Make sense?

  • 2I know that what the air is in Bionicle hasn't been established, but do you know if it's been established if a Matoran or Toa, whatever, could suffocate, if they were to be trapped in, say, a cave, with air cut off? In the same way we would, because the oxygen would be depleted?
3Meaning, is there the equivalent of the oxygen versus CO2 problem that we would face in such a situation? Any idea at all?

    4GregF: Easy ones today:
    51) Yes. If BIONICLE beings can drown, they obviously need to breathe. If they need to breathe, they can suffocate.

  • 6This topic: Turaga's Staffs by israeli komaka asks if the Turaga's staffs have powers. KN pointed out that in the GBA game, Vakama's shot fireballs, Nokama's bursts of water, etc. I wondered if you could confirm if that's accurate. (I'm reluctant to treat stuff from any computer game as proof automatically.)
  • 7Also, can the staffs help at al lto focus what tiny elemental power the Turaga have left? As a Toa tool would?

82-3) Yes. Vakama's staff, for example, shot fire even before he was a Turaga, it was his mask-making tool.

  • 9Just want to confirm, since many seem to doubt it lately, the sky above Mata Nui is a real sky, right? (As opposed to Metru Nui's sky.)

    104) Yes, the sky above Mata Nui is actual sky.

  • 11And, in this topic, Spoiler alert, BioMasterZap- The Mask Hunter theorizes that the formula "Matoran --> Toa --> Turaga is incomplete, and is actually a cycle, Matoran --> Toa --> Turaga --> Matoran --> etc.
12This sounds impossible to me, but to be safe, I want to check with you. Is that possible?

    135) No, that is inaccurate. Turaga do not go back to being Matoran. As far as we know at present, Turaga is the last step in the chain.
    14Greg

15I'm sure there's a million things more I wanted to say, but oh well... Thanks as usual. :)

#1815
1You know the usual, answers in bold, and comments in red.
21)Did the same mask maker make all 108 masks Tahu and co. had to collect, (including the Kanohi Nuva?)
31) Doubtful.
4Then everybody who made them had to make them all around the same time due to styles that changed
52)If Krekka was a Toa, would he have been from a "Ga-" location despite the fact that he's a he?
62) No. And there is no evidence he ever was a Toa.
73)Do all Toa who live in a certain district, are required to have the elemental powers that are associated with that district, (i.e. All Le-Toa must have air powers, or all Ta-Toa must have fire powers?)
83) Not a question of "required." It's a question of the Matoran gets the elemental power associated with his region, because that is his nature.
94)Do Turaga have the same elemental powers that they had as Toa?
104) Yes, but to a far lesser degree.
115)What exactly are the Mata-Nui Turaga staffs, what I'm asking is what tools on Metru-Nui they were, aside from Nokama's Makuta Fish bones staff?
125) The only other one we know about is Vakama's firestaff, which was his mask-making tool.
13I swear he gave more examples a few pages back...
146)Kraahu, and Kranua are separate from Vahki they're not combiners right?
156) No, they are not created by Vahki voluntarily combining. They are built that way in Po-Metru as special units.
16Just checking
177)In the storyline, is Lhikan gold or yellow?
187) Lhikan, at this point, has only shown up in the storyline in the movie, so he is how he looks in the movie.
198)Who made Lhikan's Hau?
208) No idea.
219)For the Vahki flash movies, did you have the "script" for them, or how did you know the Matoran in Ga-Metru were smugglers?
2210)If the answer to 9 is yes then what was the "plot" for the other movies?
2311)How did you know what combination of Kanoka made a Hau?
249-11) As fas as 9 and 11 go, I am the BIONICLE writer, it's my job to come up with stuff like that. As for 10, I am not aware of the movies being intended to tell a story so much as to give a feel of the Vahki in the city.
2512)Will we learn about the other islands that Metru-Nui inhabitants voyaged to?
2612) Yes
27Excellent
2813)About how far along was Bionicle when you joined Lego?
2913) I joined LEGO in October of 2000, five months before BIONICLE premiered in Europe. First story bible was done, first video game was underway, web site was being developed, first year's products were locked.
3014)Why do the Vahki and Bohrok have different mentalities between each type, (i.e. why are all Tahnoks more team-oriented then all Gahlok, or why do Bordakh prefer the chase over Vorzakh?)
3114) Because it would be boring otherwise.
3215)How do the Vahki or the Bohrok get their powers if they're just machines?
3315) Built in.
34Then how are they built in?
#1816

  • 1For a while, the theory's been floating around that Makuta's mask isn't a real mask, it's just part of his essence; he's simply making part of him take that form. Is that true? Or is the Kraakhan a real mask?
    21) I have never heard anyone associated with BIONICLE say anything to indicate it is not a real mask. If it wasn't a real mask, he would not have been weakened when Takanuva took it off him.

  • 3Is Lhikan Tahu? (No, wasn't my idea. It's been put forward a few times in S&T.)
    42) No, no, and abolutely not :)

  • 5When were the Shadow Toa made?
    63) After the original Toa landed on Mata Nui and before they fought them.

  • 7That's from this topic: Remember The Dark Toa ? by MOVIEMAKER. On the subject, did Makuta make the Shadow Toa?
    84) Yes, Makuta caused the dark parts of the original Toa to take form.

  • 9And, is there any chance the Shadow Toa, or a previous version of them, or even a previous group similar to them, oculd play any role in the prequel times?
    105) There are no plans at this point to do shadow Toa again.

  • 11You said we'll learn about the islands Matoran used to travel to. Will we also learn why Dume had the tunnels to them closed? (And will that be in the movie, or later books?) That's what I'm mainly curious about.
    126) Yes, I would have to say you will. But I can give you a partial answer right now -- a crisis was coming, and Dume knew it. Part of the preparation for that crisis was to seal off Metru Nui from other places, the same way you would seal a fire door to keep flames from spreading.

  • 13Kinda a speculation question here, but is there any chance the Turaga brought other tools besides their staffs from Metru Nui? I'm kinda wondering, why just one neat tool per Turaga? (I mean, it makes sense, as Turaga staffs, but maybe Vakama, for example, could have something else hidden away or something.)
    147) Actually, I was just talking about that very thing with a card game designer the other day :)

  • 15Oh, and in this topic, Green Thug, the starter thinks that in the B2 trailer, Krekka appears green, not blue. Did he look blue to you in the movie itself?
    168) I don't remember. I was too caught up in the action to pay attention to that. But remember that it may simply have been a matter of the lighting in the scene referred to.

  • 17I can't remember if you've addressed this before, but, okay, we know you don't consider either Makuta or Mata Nui Great Beings. Mata Nui is called a Great Spirit. But what is Makuta? Would you call him a Great Spirit too? Or is he just... a spirit?
    189) I hesitate to define Makuta, but I do not see him as a Great Spirit, no. I am not even certain I would classify him as a spirit at all -- but I hesitate to say he is not, because I am not sure what future story may have to say on the subject. We have plans to delve more into Makuta's background in future.

  • 19You were recently asked about how the Bahrag Cage works, and you said it's bars of solid protodermis. Well, the reason there's some confusion is, the way it was animated in the online update with the Kal near it, it looked like a blue bubble, and the Bahrag gave off bubbles. In the later comic, "All our powers against us", it looked more like a yellow/orange bubble. But in the comic where it was first formed, it looked more like, sort ropes made out of electricity or something.I don't see anything that looks quite like solid bars in any of them. Are the rope things the bars, and the other sources are wrong?
20This was the subject of this topic: The Bahrags Cage, how does it work.
2110) What the story bible said, and what I wrote to, was that combining elemental powers created a cage of solid protodermis. The "rope" thing was the artist's rendition of that. I can't speak to what the web did, as they often go off in their own directions artistically. The comic script was approved by the story team, so I go with that.
    22Greg
23Thanks:

1Hi. Me again.
21. Since the Kanohi Akaku is the mask of X-Ray vision, would a user of it be able to see someone else using a Huna? (e.g. Kopaka looking at Tahu while the latter was using his Huna and being able to see him.)
32. In a recent question, you confirmed that Makuta reased the memory of the Matoran, but not the Toa Metru. So why not? It seems like the logical thing to do; if nobody remembered Metru-Nui, then it could never be repopulated and Mata Nui never awoken. Were the Toa Metru elsewhere when he did the erasing, or did he choose not to erase their memories, or were the Toa simply strong enough to resist it?
43. About the possibility of Nidhiki being a Toa in the past, would he have been able to become a Turaga?
54. Also about Nidhiki, will we ever find out more about Lhikan's (and Nidhiki's?) fellow Toa?
65. On a completely non-Bionicle note, what did you do before working on Bionicle?
76. How far in advance did you know about things when you first joined? (e.g, did you know about the Toa Nuva when you began working on the comics?)
87. Is the relationship between Makuta and Mata Nui as "brothers" the same as Tahu and Pohatu's?

9Just wondering. 10Thankye:

111) X-ray vision lets you see through things, not things that are invisible. 122) A little of suggestion #1, a little of suggestion #3. You will get an answer to this in the relatively near future. 133) Any Toa can possibly become a Turaga, but he's not becoming one now, obviously 144) No idea. Not my call to make. I have no idea if we are ever going further back into the past, or if that would be a story we could tell in present day 155) Before I worked at LEGO, I was a journalist, a game designer, and a copywriter 166) No. The story is done year by year. We planned '05 late in '03, we are just starting to plan '06 now. We can't do story until we see product designs. When I started, BIONICLE was only planned for a one-year run, because no one knew if it would sell. 177) I know very little more about it than you do.
18Greg

191: Alas... I was hoping it would work. 202: Interesting... maybe they were far enough away that they could resist it? 213: Obviously. 224: I sure hope we are. :P 235: Ah. 246: Oh, of course. I should have remembered that. 257: Too bad.

11. You said the 2 suns are 1, under Ko-Wahi, and 2, under Lake Naho. In the PRESENT time (Tahu&co.), is the Mangai the sun that's left?
21) My understanding is that Ko=Wahi is the one that's left. The idea that Mangai is one was a misstatement on my part.
32. Was there always a basin where Lake Naho is today? or was it flat with a hole in the ground? What kept the water from flowing down the sun holes?
42) I believe there was a basin, and I cannot answer why the water did not go down the hole.
53. Okay, if I understand right, at the time of the metru, Mata Nui is completely flat, like a sand bar sticking up out of the ocean. How high is it above sea level? Seems if it was just flat, a big storm could wash water down the drains to Metru Nui. Or is it topographically the same, just devoid of life?
63) I have no idea how high it is above sea level. It's not something we have discussed.
74. On one of the CCG story cardsfrom 2k1, when Gali first got to Ga-Koro, it was about to be sucked into a whirlpool that Makuta had made, so Gali plugged the hole with a rock. Might makuta have broken through the covering of the sun hole?
84) No.
95. For the last question, you'll probably say "that wasn't official storyline" . Why discredit all the cool storyline from the MNOLG and CCG story cards that got many of the BIG fans interested? Why in 2002 didn't you just take what had already been thought up (MNOLG, CCG, PC game) and build off that?
105) Because the head of the story team wanted to go in a different direction. Things like MNOLG and the CCG were done without access to his overall plan for the line, because they were done when no one knew there would be more than year or two tops of BIONICLE. Once it was found out there would be, we had to bring things in line with the 20-year plan.
116. Why do toa give up their powers to become turaga? I know they become wiser; but is it to give someone else a chance to be a toa as well?
126) No. It is for the greater good. Watch the movie.
137. With the whole "destiny" thing, how much of a will do you see the matoran having? Since they're robots, are they programmed that some decisions MUST be made? Are they unwittingly guided by the Great Being(s)? Or is it just "well, the great beings know what someone's gonna do, so that's their destiny?
147) I don't see them as robots, because they have biological components. But let's face it -- humans are completely organic, yet there are a lot of members of our species who believe in predestination, or a combination of that and free will. Personally, I think of life as a highway -- if you take a certain exit, you will end up in a certain place because that is your destiny. If you CHOOSE to take a different exit, then you have a different destiny. The road is still laid out before you, but it is your choice whether you stay on it or not. Takua's destiny was to become Takanuva, but if he never embraced that destiny of his own free will, it would never have happened.
15I'd have to disagree with him on this, both in real life and what we've seen of the Bionicle universe. Takua was clearly destined to be Takanuva. Also, Vakama couldn't see the future and the Ko-Metruans couldn't predict the future if the future wasn't set in the first place. Yeah, I'm one of those "wacko Calvinists."
168. Whoa, whoa. Mata Nui is NOT a great being? He was sent by them according to the legends? Where was that ever said? EVERY legend I've ever read never mentioned anything but "Mata Nui descended from paradise".
178) Everything I have ever heard is that the Great Beings sent Mata Nui. Not that Mata Nui was a Great Being. The only place I have heard to him referred to as a Great Being, rather than a Great Spirit, is on BZP. The movies very clearly refer to him as the Great Spirit, not as a Great Being.
189. The toa have been called "the spirit of (element)". Mata Nui is called the Great Spirit. Since "toa" apparently means "protector," is it possible Mata Nui is a "Great Toa"? (obviously not once a matoran, though)
199) I don't see Mata Nui as being a Toa in any way, no.

37) I don't see them as robots, because they have biological components.
4I'd have to disagree with him on this, both in real life and what we've seen of the Bionicle universe.  Takua was clearly destined to be Takanuva.  Also, Vakama couldn't see the future and the Ko-Metruans couldn't predict the future if the future wasn't set in the first place.  Yeah, I'm one of those "wacko Calvinists." 5...

6What you're forgetting is the aspect of alternate timelines. I go into some detail on this ina post in this topic: Destiny.

7See, the reason the prophecies could see the future that really did happen is because people worked to make it happen. Vakama saw how the city could be saved, i.e. he saw a possible future, and worked veeery hard to make it happen. With Takanuva, as Greg said, If Takua had not decided to become Takanuva, it wouldn't have happened, and the legends would have been wrong.
8The incident you're forgetting is the awakening of the Bohrok. Legends did not foresee it; it was not supposed to happen, it wasn't destiny. When Makuta violated destiny and sent the signal to awaken the Bohrok, all the legends were suddenly wrong. Here you can clearly see that what's prophecied doesn't have to happen.
9Remember, just because it was prophecied, and happened, didn't mean it was impossible for it not to happen. (It's Temporal Mechanics 101 :D) And in that topic I explain how the future can be predicted, without it being set. (Basically, destiny makes certain timelines more prevalent, but not set in stone.)
10Edit: In other words, in all the cases where destiny came true, it's a self fulfilling prophecy. Notice Takua decided to put on the mask because he realizes it's his destiny. In other words, because the prophecy influenced him to fulfill it.

1For a while, the theory's been floating around that Makuta's mask isn't a real mask, it's just part of his essence; he's simply making part of him take that form. Is that true? Or is the Kraakhan a real mask?

2Oops... that might've been me. What I did, I think, was, in his bio, read something like "The Kratta, made from Makuta's essence...", and misread it as "The Krahkan, made from Makuta's essence..."...

1Hi: In one question you said this:

2You said we'll learn about the islands Matoran used to travel to. Will we also learn why Dume had the tunnels to them closed? (And will that be in the movie, or later books?) That's what I'm mainly curious about.
36) Yes, I would have to say you will. But I can give you a partial answer right now -- a crisis was coming, and Dume knew it. Part of the preparation for that crisis was to seal off Metru Nui from other places, the same way you would seal a fire door to keep flames from spreading.

4If you can answer it, how did Dume know the crisis was coming? Did he see something, read something? Did Makuta or DH's tell him?

5Thanx:

7Sorry, you will have to watch the movie to find out. 8Greg

9Not much help there.

2Vakama meansion at the end of the MNOLG: "The prophesies said that the defeat of Makuta would bring an end to the darkness, but the prophesies have changed." Or something along those lines.
3There does seem to be a set course through the Bionicle timeline, Greg has meansion that some of the Turaga at the time thought it was a bad idea to leave, but they made a choice. To be honest, destiny in bionicle: to difficult to judge, we may never know the rules of destiny, or if anyone truly controlls the fate of the Matoran.
4As for real life DragonMaster2050, that is your belief, which is your buisness. Not sure if we can discuss that here anyway.

1Hia,
2Firstly, great work: Can't wait for the next few books:
3Secondly, I was just looking through my The Lost World: Jurassic Park Game Book when I was most surprised to see your name written next to 'Author'. I remember you telling us you used to write RPGs, so it would make sense, but I was still surprised.
4Anyway... questions.
51) Is Metru Nui surrounded by a city wall or something to help keep out Rahi / Rahkshi?
62) Does Metru Nui have a sewage system of any sort?
73) Dume blocked off all the passages to the other islands... to keep something in the city, and stop it getting to other islands, or to keep it out?
84) Have any Vahki been known to turn against Dume, or form allies with Matoran?
95) If Lhikan is a Toa of Fire, why does he reside in the Great Temple, in Ga-Metru?
106) Is Metru Nui just a city floating on water, it it actually on an island?
11Thanks:
12BA
131) No. 142) No need for one. Matoran are very efficient creatures -- all waste gets recycled in their system. 153) Wouldn't you like to know?:) 164) No. Vahki don't think like that. They do their jobs. They stop disorder. They don't rebel or join resistance groups. They're machines. 175) He doesn't. Who said he did? His first appearance in the movie is when he is stealing the Toa stones from the Great Temple, he doesn't live there. 186) It's like Manhattan.

1One again I asked Greg a querstion about the Bionicle rating and this how it went:
2Hi, R2-D2 here, I'm, I asked you this same question when MoL was coming out and I wanted to ask, will LoMN be rated G or PG? Well, I'm mean, since MoL was rated PG will this most likely be rated PG?
3Yes, it's PG again.

1Well, I was just wondering about this:
2QUOTE 3On page 79 (just about the last page) in the Metru Nui City Guide, it says:
4To Learn more about Metru Nui, go to www.metrunui.com and enter the ISBN from the copyright page of this book. Then enter this special code.
5Well www.metrunui.com leads straight to the bionicle.com homepage. My question is where do you enter the ISBN from the copyright page on bionicle.com
6Thanks Greg:

7-ToaNuju8606

8The reason you are not seeing where to enter is that the new site is not up yet. It won't be up until toward the end of the month, probably.

2Hello,
3I was wondering:
41.What are the environs i've been hearing about?
52.If there were other islands, where would they be?In the same huge chamber that Metru-Nui is in?
63.Would there be any Matoran or anything still living on those islands after these thousand of years??
7Thanks

81) Surrounding areas 92) No, probably in other chambers 103) Never know, maybe

1Whoops, forgot to add spoiler space to be safe.

2SPOILERS

3SPOILERS

4SPOILERS

5Hey hey, Greg. It's been a while, and I had a few questions running around my brain.
61.)This has probally been sitting in here for a few months, I know considering the age target on Bionicle, it's probally a no go, but I was wondering, what's the chances of the Bionicle books being released as a set of Ebooks? (I'd love to have 'em for travel:) Maybe on the Kanoka club?
71) I can mention it to Scholastic, but like you said, given the age of the typical reader, I doubt there would be much of a market for online versions.

82.)With Nidhiki apparently being a toa, might how he became how he is now go along something like this: 9Nidhiki gets sent to an environ on a mission, either with other toa, or by himself, he fails the mission, or betrays the other toa..and becomes what he is now. So, does this mean the evolution chart might actually fork off like this.
10Matoran-Toa-(Toa Nuva)-Turuga 11\__ "Dark Hunter"
122) That is certainly a possiblility

133.)Have you had a chance to build any of the 3 $20 sets? What's your thoughts on 'em if so?
14I built Krekka the other night, he's pretty nifty experiment for Technic feets. (and you can't say he isn't. He has 8 Throwbot feets, 5 Silver Toa Metru, and that one Rahkshi foot.)
153) No, I haven't. I have seen them, and Nidhiki is my favorite.

164.)Are you looking forward to fan's reactions to next year's sets? Will there be a preview for it, like there was in Mask of Light, for the Legend of Metru Nui DVD?
174) Not that I am aware of, no brochure anyway (Walmart won't take DVDs with brochures in them, so it isn't worth us doing.)

18I think that's all I have to ask, Thanks as always for asking our questions Greg.
19Aoi
201.)C'mon guys: show some support for Bioncle ebooks: 212.)Neat. (If it messes up in post, the Dark Hunter fork is supposed to be under Toa...) 223.)Not much to say on it, just a mere curiousity question. 234.)Booo. Thanks alot, Wal-Mart. kept me from getting a brochure last year, now your keeping everyone from getting one.

11. You said you wouldn't know something until the next toa nuva storyline was written. Does that mean they won't be returning in 2005 or 2006?
21) Nope, doesn't mean that at all.
32. Is Makuta a title or name? It seemed to be his name in the movie, but now you've said there's a reason for him being called THE makuta? Is makuta possibly a matoran word for "spirit of shadow"?
42) Can't answer it, but there's a clue in the movie
53. In the description for "Web of the Visorak" it says "an all new bionicle saga". Is 2005 still in the past? Maybe a continuation of what happened after LsOMN?
63) I can't discuss 2005.
74. Will Makuta show up before the end of the year?
84) Can't answer it
91-4: The "can't answer" on all of these seems to indicate yes.
105. You said how the toa metru get the vahi back was a story for another time. Does that mean they don't have it at the end of the movie? Or you just don't want to tell us yet?
115) It means I have a story planned for it.
126. The 6 powered down matoran in BA5: VoF. Can you tell us who they are? Mata Nui forbid they are Tahu & co. Are they the right hand Mctoran from MNOLG1?
136) No, they are not Tahu and all, they were never Matoran on Metru Nui. At this point, the identity of only one of them is really important to this year's story, and that is revealed in BA5.
14Can anyone say "Ahkmou"?
157. Which book takes place during the movie? Just BA4?
167) BA4 is the movie novelization. BA5 and BA6 also take place during the events of the movie -- there are time gaps in the film in which other stories fit.
177: I'm thinking when they go back in BA6 is when they fight UD
188. Why did the toa metru take the six matoran with them? Just to see if they could find a way to wake them up? And why take 6? Wouldn't 1 be enough?
198) You are going to have to watch the movie to understand.
209. The matoran had a sea trade in the past with other islands. Are there still matoran on the other islands? Or did Dume have all the matoran come to Metru Nui before he sealed the passages?
219) Could be, don't know
2210. Speaking of that, how the Mangaia do you seal a sea passage? Was there some sort of portal involved in the sea travel?
2310) Well, think about it. Let's say you are in a big cave. The sea flows into an opening in the rock wall surrounding your cave, and that is what you sail down. Seal that opening and how do you travel by water? Short of having a submarine?
2410: But then wouldn't the matoran know they were in a giant cave, if they sail up to a rock wall? (think "Truman Show")
2511. From the movie footage, the metru nui matoran and the mata nui matoran appear identical. Could they both be representations of the same thing, only with different toy construction?
2611) Really can't speak to that. It is a question for the animators.
2712. Did the matoran shrinking have anything to do with atrophy due to the suspended animation?
2812) No
2913. When the storyline finally comes back from the past to the toa olda, might you retell the first year story with re-designed sets? (please?)
3013) We would not be going back to the Toa Olda, we would be picking up where MOL left off. And I can't see retelling 2001 -- been there done that. It would bore a lot of people to tears if we did it again.
3113: I'm not sure of that. 2001 storyline has never been officially set, since LoMN was canceled and MNOLG and the CCG were discounted from being official storyline.
3214. Why doesn't the storyline team have more control over set design? It would seem that with 20 years of storyline planned, you'd have to retrofit the story every year to fit the sets. Wouldn't it just be easier to give the set designers a list of what you need the next year? (eg. 6 toa with masks based on the 2001 noble masks, 6 matoran, 2 larger humanoid creatures, a turaga/rahi combo, and a toa/rahi combo)
3314) Twenty years of story means twenty years of general high concept (like, this year is set in the past, and it is about the Turaga when they were Toa. That is high concept.) It is not written down in detail -- that is done on a year by year basis, and so is product design. Also, story is technically supposed to follow product design, not the other way around -- just doesn't always work that way. Anyway, even if we had 20 years in detail, the designers can't do more than one year's worth of sets at a time -- not enough time. Plus you just don't do that ... you need to see how sets are selling, what is working and what is not, so you don't repeat mistakes.

1Hi GregF
2It's been a while, but I have found some things that are eyebrow raisers to me. They're mostly simple questions and shouldn't take too long.
31) You said that the Coliseum is mostly gaurded by Rorzahk and Zahdak, but looking closely at the Vahki the Toa face in the Coliseum, (and crush with a Lihkan statue) shows that they have the stun staffs of Vorzahk. Are they Vorzahk? (a better pic is shown in the BZP news topic about comic 19's cover in case you need to look).

41) My understanding is that only Po-Metru and Onu-Metru Vahki are in the movie

52) You said that Adventures 5 is the journey away from Metru Nui, you also said that the Toa Nuva return to Metru Nui storyline isn't written yet. Does this mean that the '05 story hasn't been written?
62) Means just what I said. I have never said that 2005 has anything to do with the Toa Nuva -- I have never said anything about what 2005 has to do with. The idea that it is about the Toa Nuva has only been a rumor on here.

73) You said that the Metruan don't see Mata Nui but still believe in him and credit him with the setting and rising of the suns. The only problem is that on Earth there are people who believe in one or more gods, but still believe that there are physical mechanics behind a sunrise and that it isn't that their god(s) simply make it happen. My question is this: What actual proof do the Matoran have of Mata Nui?

83) Ah, but Kraken, it wasn't always so. Look back to the Greek and Roman civilizations, or ancient Egypt .. advanced in science for their day, but still believing in Zeus, Jupiter, and other gods, building temples to them, taking their devotion seriously. What physical proof did they have? The whole point of faith -- any faith, in a deity, in an ideal, in anything -- is that it doesn't require physical proof. That's why it's faith.

94) Do you know how long it will be until the City Guide is released?

104) I think it should be in stores end of this month or next. Check Amazon.

115) The Movie's release date has been moved from October 19th, to 26th, and back to 19th again, do you have any reason why the release date has been so blurry?

125) It was always the 19th, as far as I know. But commonly release date changes have to do with what other videos are coming out that week. If there is something big coming out, you want to stay away from it. For example, last year MOL came out two or three weeks before Lion King. If it had come out the same day, it would have gotten totally lost in the marketing push for LK.

136) Some Rahi contest winners will have their entries included in a Rahi Guidebook coming next year, will this make them "Official Rahi" and will the book show the entry photos or CGI images were used to seeing.

146) Yes, they will be official Rahi ... I actually consider all the winners to be official Rahi. And the photos shown in the book will be professional photos LEGO will have taken.

157) Does Krekka have his disk launcher and "cannon" in the movie?

167) Don't remember.

178) Does Krekka speak lucidly or is it some kind of broken English?

188) He speaks. He's not eloquent, but he speaks.

199) Will we see a Vahki or Dark Hunter launch a Kanoka in the movie?

209) Don't think so, no

2110) Will we see a shrink/enlarge disk affect a living thing in the near future?

2210) In the movie, or in the comics, or where? I believe Vakama uses a shrink disk in the July issue.

2311) Early in 2004 you spoke of a promotion with the other Toa Disks and launchers for the other Toa Metru, any new word on it?

2411) Didn't happen, far as I know. We went in a different direction.

25I thank you for your time and hope not to take too much time out of your busy schedule.

1Two more questions.
2Hiya, Greg. I thought of two more questions I was wanting to ask.
31.)On Mata-Nui, what becomes of the Rahi? I can understand the matoran taking the tame/domesticed rahi, but what about the Nui-Rama and the sort? will they try transporting them too?
41) Odds are some will make their way back down now that Makuta is not blocking the way, and others will just continue to live their lives out on the island. Until and unless the Bohrok show up there again, there is no reason they cannot thrive on Mata Nui.

52.)This is a bit of curiousity with each new part with the bigger sets, since Lego usually has a habit of introducing neatew pieces in larger sets, then don't use them in the smaller. (The parts that form the Bahrag's legs, for example.) 6but the new joint pieces introduced in Krekka, Dume and Nidhiki, if you've seen the 05 designs, could you say if they use these pieces?
72) I have no idea. I really don't pay that much attention to stuff like that, being focused pretty much exclusively on story.

1I had one question I wanted to know.It might be old news, but I couldn't find a question about it ANYWHERE.
2Hello, 3I have one question for you,GregF:
4WHAT are the matoran made out of?I mean,we have skin covering us,but what about matoran?I've seen them:
5Fall in Lava,Have large boulders fall on them, and fall off Mount Ihu.That would probually kill us,but they appear to have minor injuries.Seriously,is it some kind of metal?
6-=SoS=-
7----------------------------
8Matoran are biomechanical and are made of protodermis. They are primarily mechanical parts, almost like armor, connected by organic muscle tissue, and we know they also have organic lung tissue. As far as we know, they do not have blood like we do, and their lifespan is measured easily in thousands of years, which would indicate they have great immune systems as well.
