1I have a question, and I don't know if it was already answered in the story, but please tell me if it was.

21. When Toa Ignika sacrificed himself to reawaken Mata Nui, was his spirit destroyed, or just his body?

32. If his spirit did remain, how was it able to coexist with the spirit of Mata Nui?

4Thank a lot for answering all our questions!

1As requested, here is some information on the arguments for and against the other top candidate, Vastus.

2Here are some of the reasons BZP members suspected Vastus:

  • 3Vastus is guilt-ridden about the Core War, so Velika’s promise of peace may have been very appealing to him. He might see service to Velika as atonement for his sins in the Core War.
  • 4His pledge to protect his people above all else is similar to Velika’s aim, which is ultimately to create a safer world for the Agori.
  • 5Vastus was a highly respected Glatorian. His career would provide a cover for travel between villages, which would allow him to gather information.
  • 6He was very quick to trust Mata Nui.
  • 7Vastus was the one who told Mata Nui about Tarduk’s expedition to the north.
  • 8During the Core War, Vastus came across prehistoric records left by ancestors of the Agori (mentioned in Mata Nui’s guide). Velika might have supplied him with those records.

9And here are some of the arguments other BZP members made against Vastus:

  • 10Vastus didn’t seem to believe Tarduk when Tarduk told him about the Valley of the Maze and the baterra.
  • 11Since Vastus was not given a lot of spotlight time in the story, we don’t have very much evidence for or against him.
  • 12Vastus’s guilt stems from the accidental deaths of many Ice Agori in the Core War. Velika, however, doesn’t seem to care if he has to kill people for the greater good.
  • 13Vastus preferred to stay close to Tesara to protect his people, decreasing his utility as a spy for Velika.
  • 14Vastus is very loyal to the Agori and his society, and has said that a Glatorian’s duty is chiefly to his village. This philosophy would be rather at odds with the idea of secretly serving as a spy for a Great Being.

1Thanks for answering, Mr. Farshtey!

2If you're interested, I'd like to share my opinion on the recently proposed idea about Protodermis being a form of programmable matter.  I think that it is a very logical idea, given all we know about Protodermis.  We know that it takes different forms (liquid, solid, and gas (in the form of water vapor)), and that everything in the MU is made from it.  Given that the GBs were scientists, and many major sciences concern the study of genetics, it seems probable that they might have been able to invent some sort of programmable matter based upon the properties of Energized Protodermis, and thereby code it into different forms, like water, rock, muscle, and other things we've seen in the MU.

3However, despite the idea being plausible (and, to some extent, almost obvious), I would put a lot of thought into your final decision.  After all, Protodermis is a major element of the Generation 1 BIONICLE story, so it would probably be best to take any big change/confirmation like this lightly...

4That being said, I have one more question to ask of you so far.  It concerns one of the answers you gave to my last set of questions, the one about Icarax:

51. Why WAS Icarax given the Mask of Shadows in 2008?  Did the story team decide they wanted him to retrieve it and then have the set designers reuse the mold?  Or did the designers give him the mask and then say, "Hey, you guys figure out why he has it"?  If you don't know the reason he was given that mask, that's okay...I ask merely out of curiosity.

1This question is because of something on the BIONICLE website so I hope you can clear this up.

2All of the bios for the Masters refer to thier masks as The Mask of (Element), but Lewa's is called the Mask of Jungle. Is this official or just an error?

1I know of a very interesting and extensive theory for protodermis made by a tumblr user/ bionicle fan, which uses some very good real world chemstry to explain it. Unfortunately it seems I can't link you to her post because of restrictions on the LEGO site (which I guess is reasonable given that its a kid's site) so I'll just paraphrase it.

2She thinks that the reason why liquid prototdermis becomes like molten metal whe heated is be cause at high temperatures it denaturizes and becomes much thicker, much like cells do (the best example would be how an egg turns from liquid to solid when cooked), which is kinda similar to the theory of it being semi-alive. And then when that molten protodermis cools it becomes pure solid protodermis. Raw solid protodermis would likely be purified in the same way as liquid, resulting in metallic protodermis. Protosteel would be made by continuing the purification process untill the molecules can't get any denser.

3And for the Toa Seal, she said that combining the six elements might make the molecules combine into a tightly pack hexagonal lattice structure. And because of the high amount elemental energy, any attempt to break it would release that energy, which is why an attempt to break it is extremely painful and possibly fatal. When the energies are applied again, it dissolves the tightly pacted molecules.

4What do you think?

1So would that be why Atakus has those mysterious blades that "glow with an unearthly light"? I must say I highly approve Thumbs up

1Hey Greg:

21) Do you know where the Matoran are constructed? I believe you said that Metru Nui was one such location, but do you know where in the city? I always thought they were constructed someplace hidden underneath the city, and then brought to the surface.

32) I hate to keep bothering you with this question, but can you finally tell of the nature of the MU inhabitant's brains (I know it sounds weird)? I feel like it matters because it would influence the light in which we see them. For example, if they have mechanical brains, then the Toa and Matoran would truly feel like artificial, AI creations originally intended to be non-sapient. It would make them truly alien and all the more interesting, especially in their interactions with SM inhabitants. If they have organic brains, then the Toa and Matoran would feel more like natural creations. They'd be less alien (and to me, less interesting), but more relatable. It would also hint at better realtions with the Agori.

1I have a question about the adaptive kanohi.

2Is it possible that the adaptive masks do not create their own forms, but change to the shape of diffrent kanohi better physicaly suited to the environment and modify it to what it would need? This would explain why the kakama looks so much like the Vahi, the akaku is shaped like a matatu, and the hau is shaped like a mask of charisma.

1Hello Greg,

2I would like to ask how did you know about that canonization debate going on.

3Seriously, it is unbelievable that some fans have the audacity to say that the fans hold the right to shut down canon.

1Is it possible that some of the Vorox were spies for Velika before going mad? Or maybe the spies never lot their sanity and pretended to be primitive, in the hopes of surviving long enough for Velika's return? Perhaps they gave Velika enough information so that Velika would know the status of the Bara Magna Sand Tribe, and give it to Kabrua(The Bota  Magna Vorox guy)?

2Just trying to think through what you mentioned about Velika having hidden agents. Maybe Velika would find a way to cure the sanity of the Vorox and create an army of them.

1Hello, Greg! I know that you are not responding to any posts regarding bionicle 2015, so I will refrain from asking about the topic. But, i must ask: if you ever get the chance, will you try to finish The Yesterday Quest and The Powers That Be? I realize that you're WAY over your head with the Ninjago and Chima books, but I just feel that the serials had so much potential, and could have been absolutely amazing. i eagerly await your response Happy

2I actually asked about doing that earlier this year. But, understandably, with new BIONICLE featuring an all-new story, LEGO is not looking for "new old" story to get pumped out and possibly confuse new fans. I can't argue with that, because the odds are they are right - it would be like re-releasing the old Scholastic books now. Because of the number of story and character differences between new BIONICLE and old BIONICLE, it would have the potential to really cloud matters.

3What about doing some sort of exclusive partnership or something with BS01 or BZP or somewhere and publishing the rest of the chapters on there, w/o too much promotion? that would allow them to be finished, and new fans wouldn't really pay any more attention to them/Gen1 in general than they would anyway, so it wouldn't really detract from Gen2 very much. in fact, i'd say it would get the old fans even more pumped for 2015... the more bionicle activity, the better!

1Hi Greg,

2I can't remember if somebody has already asked this or not, but would it be possible for you to say how the story serials would end, just to give the 'Gen 1' fans a sense of closure? I know you have no reason to write the rest of the serials, and to be honest I would have been surprised if LEGO had wanted you to, but it would be nice to have known where the stories were going to go. There are a lot of loose ends, and it would be nice if they could be tied up, even in just a couple of paragraphs, before the BIONICLE reboot begins.

3Many thanks,

42. From which metal is made the great spirit robot? Protosteel?5Or exsidian?
63. What is the most solid between the protosteel and the exsidian7The metal that the GB have used to contain the EP.
84. When you said that the GB are the ultimate scientists what are the thing that would be possible and9Impossible for the GB? Is that the GB could mastered the interstellar flight and spaciotemporal? Would10Be possible for the GB to accelerate the evolution of the other species?

11 Can you answer to my question please. Thank you

4I can't do that. I can only write new BIONICLE fiction with LEGO's permission, and they are not going to give permission to put more old story out there when they are trying to keep the focus on new story.

5I don't outline my stories. If I did, I would do what you suggested, but as it stands, I have no idea how many more chapters the serials would have had or how they would have ended. I don't believe in outlining, I feel it leeches the creativity out of writing if you are just following a roadmap the whole way.
