It can certainly work with the right execution. Even then,2a future story arc could work very well with subtle references to the already-established stuff.
3I have a question about TSO: If BIONICLE were to eventually return, do you think that he would at least be a caharacter we'll see?

4Keep in mind, though, that at the time BIONICLE got cancelled, the feeling was that the complex story had become a barrier to new people getting into the franchise, which is why set sales went down. That is why HF purposely did not have a complex story. I don't see LEGO Company going, yeah, let's inspire the new kids to go hunt down websites so they can study nine years of old story. The backstory IS complicated, that's just a fact.

11. Me talking to you along with others view you as the living embodiment of the bionicle universe. The "god" of bionicle if you wish. But did you have help writing the story.
22. Did you also have any input on the sets?
33. I've heard you say if you could bring bionicle back you would bring it as a reboot. Do you mean you would push the story into the future, restart from the original story but change it, or completely create a new universe.
44. Regardless of sets if you could make money, would you continue the story in book form.
55. If you were too continue in book form would you make the story darker, most of your audience is now in highschool or have graduated. I remember back in the day reading the books as a kid it was like a euphimism for the darker parts of fiction. Bionicle could be turned into a successful series of teen fantasy novels in my mind.
66. A followup to my 2 question previously, does the red star require your body so they can take your conscience and put it in a new body.
77. Would you have made the red star functioning again if you were to continue the story.
88. I feel another path you could go would be like DC Comics, where they have the crisis on infinite earths which changes the old story and modifies it into a new one. Would you have done something like this for a reboot.
99. Finally, if the golden skinned being was not evil nor good, (9B) why did he have so much power, and (9C) why would he enslave the toa. (9D)Would he pose a threat to the potential settlers of spheres magna.

101) The overall story for the year came from the story team, of which I was one member. My job was to execute it, and in some cases, to add to it as things required.

112) No.

123) I would not restart the original story, no. I do not know what the reboot would look like, but I would resist us just repeating ourselves.

134) Had Scholastic chosen to keep doing the books, I would have done so.

14More in next post ....

65) Doubtful. Remember, this is not up to me -- LEGO Company has to approve whatever I write, and "darker" is not what they are about in general.

76) I think they require your body so they know what to replace it with.

87) I don't know.

98) Probably not. DC has a vested interest in maintaining its old characters, due to licensing reasons and because they are icons. BIONICLE does not, because there is no licensing angle and most of the people who remember the old characters are probably past the age they are going to buy a lot of sets.

109) You don't have to be evil or good to have power ... and he enslaved the Toa because he was fulfilling the dreams of the Skakdi, and it would depend on who he was working with. If he started fulfilling the dreams of the Toa, it might be a much nicer world.

1Hi, it's me again. Sorry to bother you with this, but if there's anyone who listens and cares about the fans, that person is you. I just wanted to get my two cents out about potential Bionicle story continuation. I would appreciate a jump to the future, as I would like my 21 and growing collection of Bionicle sets to still matter, and not be retconned by a reboot. I understand that if it is ever brought back that a reboot makes sense. But I also think with your level of talent, you could make a future jump story work even better! A decade of good work would be a shame to lose to a reboot! And I'd also hate to lose one of my favorite websites, Biosector01. So, once again I'm sorry to bother you with this, but I hope you would take it into consideration, in the event that you ever get to write more Bionicle.

4Appreciated. But a jump to the future could very well be the reboot, with none of the old characters still in existence or in that location. Remember, one idea that was originally tossed about for Hero Factory (and rejected) was that HF was the BIONICLE universe many, many years in the future. Don't assume a future jump means we keep the old characters around.

1It's a great pleasure to be able to talk with you, Mr Farshtey.2I have several questions mainly about Bohrok-Kal, I hope you will be able to answer them.

31-When the Bohrok-Kal were vainquished with their own powers, some Krana-Kal left their exo-shell. Do you remember which ones it was?

42-Pahrak-Kal sank into the center of Aqua Magna, where it was destroyed. Did he go through the head of Mata Nui?

1Hi Greg! Two things:

21:  Do you know of any online place to read Bionicle comics since they are no longer on the website?

32:  What is your favorite wave of Bionicle sets (ex. Mata, Nuva, etc.)

1Which bionicle villain is your favorite Mr. Farshtey?

116) What does that mean? Are beings replaced by similar beings?

2Say Greg, what do you think a Bionicle reboot really needs? What do you think are the key factors of Bionicle? A reboot could just be about another race of biomechanical beings created by the Great Beings on another planet in the universe. That way you don't even need the Agori. A reboot could also be another adventure or story line on the planet Spherus Magna. That way you don't even need Toa or other Matoran Universe inhabitants. Or it could be about the Mata Nui robot, with all concepts, fail safes, species, backups, mask powers, elements and technologie created by the Great Beings.Nerd

3So what do you think is really necessary to call something part of 'Bionicle'? I'd really like to hear that from you!Happy

4...Or why not just start off with a summery? Joking I mean it's complicated, but just do a few sentences about each part (Mata Nui, Metru Nui, Voay Nui, etc.)

1I really want to know a LEGO creator!!!!!!!!! Please tell me a LEGO creator!

91) No idea.102) Well, since Universe doesn't exist anymore, I am not sure you have to worry that much about sticking to canon since there is no canon to stick to now.113) For a short time, yes124) It's hard to say -- quality, yes, but feel could be different depending on what direction LEGO Company wanted to take the property.135) I never created any characters that got rejected.14Well, what if (thinking hypothetically) LEGO were to bring back Bionicle and consult you?
15And @ 2.): I mean the 2010-2012 canon.
16Thanks, Greg (it's okay if I call you that, right?) for letting us chat with you on this topic.171) Well, I would certainly love to be involved in a return of BIONICLE, but I think if I were to do it, it would need to be a reboot in some respect. You can't pick up where you left off, because there is too much backstory for new fans to learn. So I think you would need to at the least do a time jump into the future.

18Could you please help me with question 2, Greg?

19Is that the Universe question? I never played Universe so I don't really know the story at all.

20Well, just a writing tip or two on sticking, or at least seeming like sticking to any canon in general is welcomeSmileHappy   If you'd like to know the Story, I can tell you.SmileHappy

5Sorry, this story is 10 years old now, I really don't remember.

52) Rahkshi, probably - nice design plus they saved the line from being cancelled.
