1Vahiki - If I had to guess, what you are seeing is the collectible being called different things in different regions of the world. It is definitely not polyp thrower in North America, I can tell you that.

1Hillhacker - The Toa Mata knew what their mission was, which was to awaken Mata Nui should he ever slumber. So yes, they knew when the trip started where they were supposed to end up. HOWEVER -- they had no idea Matoran would be living on the island of Mata Nui, because no one was ever supposed to live there.
2Nikara - Simple. The Toa canisters malfunctioned. It took take Takua sending a signal using the Toa stones he found to bring them into shore.
