3a) I can't really say "yes" or "no" to this, because whether we did something like that again (with not only the story emphasis but things like the truck tour) would be a call that Marketing would make.

4b) One thing to note is that, with most of our "big" lines these days, we seem to have a TV series. That mitigates the need to do a lot of story telling in other media.

5c) The reason you saw so much investment and so many things with BIONICLE in 2001 is that it was essentially a whole new category for us -- a story-driven, buildable action figure line -- and the only way it would work would be to aggressively push it. The idea was, "Pretend this is a big movie that we are doing toys for and just get the line out there so it's everywhere you look."

6No idea if or even to whom, but if you could pass an idea to the marketing department to have a mata nui online game for the new bionicle, i'm sure that would attract a lot of attention for the new audience. they had that one game they made last year for android and ios, but an expanded game with montly updates to the play/app store similar to the original MNOG would be absolutely fantastic and a great way to expande the lore of okoto and grab the kids' interest.

7in addition, with a few non-intrusive in-app advertisments, that game could also generate a little revenue.

8just my $0.02.

9Nothing is impossible for any LEGO line, but I do know that MNOG cost a fortune to make.

7out of universe explanation aside where you need enough story material to fill a whole story year, why didn't the toa hordika just use remove poison kanoka to undo the mutation? were there not any around that they could find, did nobody think of it, or...

 

8while i'm mentioning story years, i figured the LEGO message boards would be the best place to ask where i could find the main story source for the new bionicle. for the 2015 year i know they had those videos on bionicle dotcom, but i've been unable to find anything for the new 2016 story. are there comics, books, videos...?

102) There are books starting to come out, as of last fall, as well as graphic novels. Plus there will be the Netflix limited series to tell 2016 story.

3i think the best representation of how they "really" look would be the movies. there you can see how the organic tissue is integrated into their armor, especially in the second one. you can see how their armor is actually an exoskeleton of sorts to the soft tissues underneath. as far as the sets go, you can kinda see how those pieces relate to what you see in the movies: the LEGO pieces closely resemble the exoskeleton, and their organic tissue would be... well, inside the pieces.

 

4as for whether certain body parts look like other body parts in different characters with similar set pieces, i'd say probably not. i'm going to point you toward the movies for this again. while you can't see every character in there, you can see the interpretation of each set piece based on the role it plays in that character's body. for example, gali nuva's arms and legs have the same set pieces, but they don't look exactly alike in the movie. also, kopaka nuva's left arm uses the same set piece as the vahki arms do, but in the movie, the vahkis' arms look totally different than kopaka's arm.

6To add on to his answer -- the original conceit behind BIONICLE was "pretend this was a big-budget movie and we are doing toys based on it." So we were going for a Technic version of these characters.

21) I was never paid any extra for doing the BIONICLE web serials or the comic book -- that was stuff I did in my own time, on top of my regular work. I was paid by Scholastic to do the novels.

32) For me to do additional work on the old story, LEGO Company would have to give me permission. They own the story and the characters, not me. And since they are trying to promote a whole new story, it really wouldn't make any sense for them to be putting more old story out there. It would just confuse new fans.
