1Just one q:
2I've put all the clues together. The Exo-Toa being in the comic this year about the same time as the Toa Hagah...the Exo-Toa are connected to the Brotherhood...the Toa Hagah are bodyguards for Makuta, who is in the Brotherhood...the Exo-Toa hold Toa...I've thought it all through, and I have a well-balanced theory. I think I know the answer, but I wanna make sure. So, here it is:
3Did the Toa Hagah order the making of the Exo-Toa?
4-TBOM-

5Nope, sorry, they did not.

6Well, that's a spirit breaker. But at least we've slightly narrowed down the possibilities, and we know the BoM is somehow connected to the Exo-Toa (GregF confirmed), so it should be interesting.

1Time to argue:
Toa of Resumption
Toa Bomonga-Spirit of the Night
21) Which Toa are you talking about? Tahu, etc.? Their destiny is to save Mata Nui. The Rahaga have had 1000 years to work at undoing the Visorak's work in other environs, with whatever success they have had (not a lot).
3So our Rahaga friends won't die in the movie: This opens up some cool confrontations between Turaga and Rahaga when they return to Metru Nui.

4It's RAHAGA (you forgot an A). And I believe that Mr. Farshtey's referring to the fact that Norik and co. have been Rahaga for about 1000 years, which they spent doing what they could to undo the Visorak's work. In other words, the Rahaga have been doing what they're doing now for a thousand years.

5Actually I think Greg said that the Rahaga had been like that for a few hundred years, wheras the Metru Nui storyline happened 1000 years before the Mata Nui one, so it's reasonable to think that they survived. Besides, I don't think lego's gonna want to kill off 6 characters at once. The odd one, yes, but not 6.

6Plus, one of the first things Greg told us about the Rahaga was that they'd be major characters for several years, so I'd take that to mean they didn't die...

7And now for Q&A...

  • 8Can I assume that when Makuta uses Rahkshi powers, it's basically that he is using level 6 powers? Or seven, whichever.
9GregF: Yes, you pretty much can. You FINALLY get to see him use some in Book 10 -- he uses, let's see, gravity control, chain lightning, heat vision and a few others.
  • 10And can Makuta infect at a distance like the Shadow Kraata?
    11GregF: He can, yes.
  • 12Oh, and speaking of him, some members have said that it's possible Makuta can only use one Rahkshi power at a time (you may have said that... ). Do you know if that's true?
13GregF: It hasn't come up, but it is a realistic restriction to keep him from being ridiculously powerful.

14Book 10 is finally finished, as of last weekend, and I think it actually makes sense :)Not really more violent than other books, but different kind of action, a little more physical. Plus I think a much more interesting take on Makuta. (One of my favorite lines is when he says to Vakama, "There are a thousand ways I could destroy you right now ... and 941 of them hurt.")

1Q: Do Bionicle eat, sleep, drink, or die of age?
2A: BIONICLE characters do not eat like we do -- they absorb energy directly from certain things. They do sleep. Thus far, we have never seen one die of old age and we know they have extremely long natural lifespans.

1Nothing ground-breaking... though I LOVE 8:
21. Was Lhikan the leader of his Toa Team? 31) Probably
42. Did Lhikan's Team have a group name? 52) Not to my knowledge. Since they have not figured as a group in the storyline, we have not come up with a name for them.
63. Will we ever learn why Nidhiki hate Lhikan so much? And does Lhikan hate Nidhiki, too? 73) Yes, you will, in BIONICLE Encyclopedia, and yes he does.
84. Was Voporak allied with the Dark Hunters during the Metru Nui War? 94) No
105. Can you please check if this information is correct? 115) It seems to be mostly right
126. Does The Shadowed One have any powers, besides the Disintegrating eyebeams, Protodermis creating spear, and Madness Spinner? 136) lol, what else does he need?
147. You hinted at a third organization. You said they wouldn't mind Vakama having the Vahi. This leads me to thinking, is it an Toa Organization? Because that would be so awesome: 157) You will have to wait and see
168. Can you describe The Dark Hunters' Island Base? 178) Big. Creepy. According to legend, haunted by the spirits of Dark Hunters the Shadowed One has executed in the past.

4There is a difference between being able to infect someone, period, and having the time and energy to struggle against their will. So while Makuta may be able to infect at a distance even a Toa, he probably couldn't consentrate hard enough to do so in the middle of a battle.
#3699
1Possibly because it takes timie, and if he waitied, the Toa would crush him...?

1Probably.

5Yes, and I'd like to point out that Makuta infected a random Miru. This is shown by the Nui-Kopen holding Lewa's miru in its claw. So, all he had to do was infect a lifeless mask, but infecting a mask with a Toa controlling it is a much harder and more strenuous task.
#3702
1Okay, that's it. I just have to argue some more:
2How about the Rahkshi infecting Tahu Nuva? They seemed to have no trouble doing it.
3Okay, now we're really off-topic, and since I am out of questions for Mr. Farshtey...
4Better be quiet.
5jetslandingboard :silver:
#3703
1To you, jetslandingboard , I say that there is a difference between poisoning someone, even a Toa, and taking control of their will. And, to argue as well, we do not know the circumstances of Lewa's infection, and just how long it took for Makuta to assert his will. And their are other factors, such as mask-deprivation weakness. And, as we saw in the flash movie (still available on BS01, check the link in my sig), Lewa was still able to temporarily regain a measure of control.
#3704
1A few answers (comments in I):
21. The Toa Nuva were never Matoran on Metru Nui, correct? 31) Correct 4I've been wrong for so long...now I know. 52. Would Protocairns be classified as a Rahi? Because they're mutated Matoran. 62) Yes, they are Rahi. They were Matoran, but they turned into beasts.
73. Are there any plans to bring the Mana-Ko into the story? 83) Not that I am aware of, no. If it showed up anywhere, it would be in the books, because it is hard to get stuff into the comic based on sets we are no longer selling. 9Too bad. It's a really cool model. 104. Are the Toa Nuva going to the new island by choice or because they have to? 114) I can't discuss 2006 storyline. 12Worth a try. 135. Are Sentrakh and Voporak Dark Hunters? (just checking) 145) Sentrakh is the guardian of the Dark Hunters' leader, and Voporak works for the Dark Hunters doing a very specific job 15That's...interesting. What are they then? 166. You have said before that the winning Toa for the contest has to have all the names go through the legal checks. Does the element have to go through too if it's too unrealistic? 176) No, elements don't have to go through legal checks because no one is going to trademark an elemental power. I pretty much make the call on elements based on whether I think they would be useful in the story. 18Luckily, Greg's good judgement convinces me to not say "yikes:".

1Here's a little bit more. There's nothing spectacular, just some clarifications.

2Hi, Mr. Farshtey.I thank you for taking the time to answer the last batch of questions. Here are a few more:
31) When I was reading BA#8 Challenge of the Hordika, I noticed that, most of the time, when referring to the brown Visorak, it was spelled, "Roparak."But when I looked on Bionicle.com it was spelled, "Roporak."Was this just a typo?
42) A long time ago, I think you told a member that, when writing the 2005 storyline, you decided to turn the everything we thought to be true totally around. Is the whole incident about the other Matoran(Nuhrii and co.) destined instead to be Toa what you were talking about?
53) When typing the words to the books, do you prefer the typewriter or the computer?
64) Are Bionicle books the only books you've written?
75) When did Makuta acquire the ability to form spikes of crystalline Protodermis(in BA#4: LoMN)?I always thought his only powers were controlling the shadows and the Rahkshi powers.
86) What, in your opinion, would be an awesome name for a member of BZPower?
9-

101) Yup, just a typo. 112) Yes, partly. 123) I do everything on computer. That way, I can just send the file straight to my editor via email. 134) Oh, no. I had three novels published in the '90s, two horror and one sci-fi, and I have also written or co-written over 35 roleplaying books. 145) Well, let's put it this way -- Makuta knows how the world works, probably better than anyone else you have met in the story. And I will leave it at that for now. 156) Oh, gee, I don't know.
16Greg

1A vahki talky... 2Anyways, this is mostly a few questions about the Bionicle Contests. Ya'll see Greg's answer, so if y'win pack it up reallllly well.
3Hey hey, Greg. 4Just had a few questions, (I'm not gonna ask about what the contest is or anything.)
5First off, is the next Bionicle contest next month?
6Second, if we include a list of pieces we used in building the model with our entry pictures and essay(if there is one), if the winner has to send the entry in, will they get duplicates of those pieces incase something happens to the winning model on the way to Lego, or when it gets there?
7Third, This is just a personal curiousity but you said alot of the models had names of anime characters; what was the most common name used?
8On the subject of names, has Lego chosen a name for the Toa winner yet? if so, can you reveal it?
9I think that's pretty much all I got running around my head right now.
10Aoi

111) It's in the May BIONICLE comic. 122) We try as best we can to keep all the pieces together, and if pieces are missing, we try to find replacements, though that cannot always be guaranteed depending on how old the pieces are. We strongly suggest that entrants pack their models as well as possible to make it less likely pieces will fall off on the way to us. 133) I really don't recall. 144) Yes, but I am going to wait until it is in the magazine in May. No reason people need to know it right now.
15Greg

1Well, also of note is the fact that Iruini's Kualsi only transports him (and any inanimate object that he's holding) to somewhere within sight. Now we can all think of Kualsi Nuva and Pehkui Nuva, and exactly what their abilities are...

2Hiah Greg F.I'll be quick: 31)Are Roodaka and Sidorak officialy with a species? 42)When can you say more about Sentrakh? 53)Is the Voporak a bulky guy or a thin guy? 64)Will whe learn more about Lhikan's Ten Teammates on the future of Bionicle? 7That's all:

81) I don't understand your question. 92) When it gets closer to him actually being in the story. 103) Fairly bulky, as I recall. 114) No idea. We don't plan on flashing back to the past again for at least a few years.

36. Does The Shadowed One have any powers, besides the Disintegrating eyebeams, Protodermis creating spear, and Madness Spinner? 46) lol, what else does he need?

5:P I was just curious, as Makuta have 42 powers, and The Shadowed One only have three. Not that he need anymore, but does he have any? 61) Not that I know of offhand
72. Can Voporak make Rhotuka? 82) I would have to check the model -- I think he does have a spinner.
93. The Dark Hunters' Island really intrigues me - Is there sort of a Stronghold in the middle of the Island, where The Shadowed One resides? 103) Yup
114. Are there any special Rahi/Guardians on the Island? 124) Yup
135. Does the Island have a name? 145) Not yet, no
156. I presume the reason for The Shadowed One executing Dark Hunters, would be betrayal or failure. Right? 166) Pretty much, yes
177. Is the Island tropical, rocky or something else? 187) I see it as rocky and storm-swept

1More Dark Hunters Goodies:
21. About how many Dark Hunters attacked Metru Nui? Dozens? Hundreds? 31) Oh, quite a few. Dozens, easily, quite possibly more.
42. The Shadowed One was leading the Metru Nui War, right? 52) I have not determined yet if the SO actually was physically there.
63. Was the Metru Nui War a requested mission, or something the dark Hunters did of their own free will? 73) It was actually not a case of "they were hired to do it." They were ordered to do it by the SO.
84. Any cool quotes from The Shadowed One? I'm currently using the awesome Kanohi quote, but are there others? 94) "When we return, we will send a venom flyer to the Brotherhood of Makuta expressing our sympathy for their loss. They will brood and rage, but they will never be able to see our hand in this. And without proof, the Brotherhood will not risk a war."

1- - - - -
21. I'm still confused as to the "official" Bionicle character appearance. I see it this way – both set portrayals and movie portrayals are equally accurate, changes being made to fit the purposes of each. So depending on your viewpoint, Toa could have fingers or not. I've heard many times that both set and movie are always official, so the only possible answer seems to be that they both are. Is this right?
3Well, basically, the official appearance for the movies and the books is with hands. The comics have to reflect the actual sets, so they show them without hands. Just different visions of the characters. 4So... I was right?
52. Can Kahgarak use their spinners to escape from the shadow dimension? It would make more sense if their power was to create a "rip" or "gateway" between the two dimensions instead of a one-way door. (Why do I bring this up? Krahka, the shapeshifter, has seen Kahgarak before. :psychotwitch: )
6Yes, they can 7Haha:
83. Would you mind placing the events from the comics with the Rahkshi where they occur in the movie? I'm writing a timeline.
9I am working on a timeline myself, so I will try to do that 10Aww.
114. Do you know if another comic collection book is planned? The first one had 1-15, so the second could have 16-30. I finally got mine for Christmas after looking everywhere for it, and I love it. The nostalgia-power is staggering.
12Not to my knowledge at the moment. I am not sure how well the first one sold. 13If you haven't already, BUY IT: Check Amazon.com, where I got mine.
145. "The were sorted into six slots, silver-gray Great and Noble masks just waiting for someone to don them and use their power." (BA8, 37). So, are unworn masks silver? As I mentioned before, although they've been called gray in the past you could always argue that silver is a type of gray, albeit a metallic one. I really hope this is the case, because that would explain the toy silver Kanohi. After all, they don't make many gray Kanohi.
15Since I have seen them depicted as silver and as gray, I went with silver-gray. 16Wheee: Victory at last: *huggles silver Kanohi* Take that, "Kanohi Rua" people:
176. You mentioned once that any creature could probably make Rhotuka. Do you mean if they focused hard enough, or if they were given a mechanical launcher? I can just imagine Matoran blasting spinners out of their hands...
18They would have to have a launcher, either natural or mechanical. 19Thought so, but he didn't mention that and so I wanted to check.
207. Is there an officially-set way that Bionicle organisms reproduce, or is that still up in the air? I know that either way we won't be learning it any time soon, but I was just curious. Seeing as kraata (dark energy) grow into Rahkshi in protodermis, my theory was always that a male and female Matoran contribute energy to a protodermis pool and grow a new Matoran there. The same could work for Rahi. It's sensible and unoffensive to parents, unlike growing them in machines or having biological reproduction.
21Well, first, there is no "male/female" anything involved. And second, I am not sure you can even call it reproduction, because there are no parents and there are no young. 22WOAH: Is that the first reproduction information ever released? To S&T:
238. When the Matoran spheres drained energy, did it go anywhere? My theory is that the Matoran energy was absorbed and used to power the life-support systems, and the repercussions didn't hit until later. Either that, or Makuta was using it for something else. I haven't decided yet.
24You mean the energy that shrank them? That was an after-effect that happened over many years after they were released from the spheres. 25I thought the spheres drained their energy, and they shrank as an after-effect. Clarifying...
269. I think I asked this before, but I don't remember. Things like the the Tohunga and Kahu can't be mentioned officially any more, but does that mean that they never existed (Lego time-traveled and wiped them out) or that the Matoran used to be Tohunga regardless of whether or not it can't be mentioned?
27In the case of Tohunga, it has pretty much been wiped, since we called the Matoran on Metru Nui Matoran. As far as kahu goes, I assume they still exist they are just not called that anymore. Since we already had Gukko-kahu, we just call them Gukko. 28"Gukko-kahu"? Hmm. Clarifying...
2910. Will the Kahu/Gukko issue be resolved in the Encyclopedia? We know from Matau that Gukko are hard to tame, so it makes sense that once they finally figured out how to on Mata Nui they replaced tame Kahu with tame Gukko. Or maybe the change in Matoran size meant they needed larger/stronger birds. Or maybe it took Lewa to tame the Gukko. I don't know, there's lots of possible reasons.
30There is no way for me to resolve it because I can't use the term kahu, so it is impossible to explain anything involving a name I can't use. 31"When they learned to tame the Gukko birds, Le-Matoran replaced all of their former mounts with them."
3211. Are you still interested in doing web-exclusive short stories or background information? It would make great Kanoka Club content.
33I would like to, but it is hard finding the time. The first BIONICLE 2006 book is due May 30, I am doing story bibles for two other LEGO properties right now, and I am planning a wedding. 34Well, there's still a little hope.
3512. Was Hahli officially appointed Chronicler right after Takua's transformation or after she followed Takanuva down to his battle with Makuta?
36It was after she followed Takanuva down. 37Thought so.
3813. Once the pictures and formatting are laid out, how long do you expect the Encyclopedia to be? I usually try not to ask "spoiler questions" about the future, but I'm very excited about this.
39I have no way to guess, because I do not know how many pics there will be or what font they plan on using. I haven't seen typeset pages yet -- once I do, I should have a better idea. 40I think he said the manuscript was about 222 pages. So I'm guessing... 300?
41- - - - -
42And not really questions, but comment conversation bits.
43And as always, some comments. I think that in the future there should be a contest where people would make their own designs for the other four Toa Hagah, since there's huge demand for them. Or if not a contest, the Lego designers should make them. It would only take a few minutes to make them because they're just modded Toa, and having pictures for future reference guides would be great. Detailed pictures of them in the Lego Magazine would allow fans to build them from their own parts collection. I already designed mine, and they'll fit in perfectly with the two sets once I get four Hagah shields off Bricklink. :D
44I can certainly keep the contest idea in mind. The odds are having the LEGO designers do it would not work -- one, because they have very little time (they are wrapped up designing 2007 items now), and two because someone would have to pay them for the time it took them to do it. 45Ooh, stingy. I could design/build them all in ten minutes, and do it for free. I did win that speed building challenge. *shakes fist at Ikki* :P
46And my guess for the new guidebook... hmmm... Dark Hunters? A May Dark Hunters contest would be AWESOME and a Dark Hunters Guide would be amazing. *keeps fingers crossed*
47He left no comment, which may be saying something in itself. :D

1When we return, we will send a venom flyer to the Brotherhood of Makuta expressing our sympathy for their loss. They will brood and rage, but they will never be able to see our hand in this. And without proof, the Brotherhood will not risk a war.

2I wonder what they did? Maybe he killed a Brotherhood member.
3Anyway, how come Greg's still deciding on Sentrakh's powers when the book's been written? I hope this doesn't mean he doesn't use them. :(

1Got some semi-spoilers here.

2A few more things that are fundamental story issues.
31. Can a Noble Komau transmit mental messages/images as well as orders? 41) No, it isn't a mask of telepathy. 5Awww... 62. How long does it take de-masked Matoran to shut down? 72) Oh, several hours, probably. 8I knew this had been asked before but didn't feel like looking for it. 93. If a Toa's mask was knocked off his/her face, could they potentially summon another Kanohi from their Suva onto their face? 103) No. If you are not wearing a mask you lose all access to the other masks in your possession. 11Yeah, I thought so. Just clarifying... 124. Do all Hordika (even Rahi) have spinners? 134) The only Hordika we know of are the Toa Hordika. Mutated Rahi are not considered Hordika. 14But he said Pewku would be Pewku Hordika if she was mutated...I have to get back to him on that, as there's a giant Fikou Hordika in my epic. 155. Does a Toa Hordika's Rhotuka power always relate to their element? 165) Yes 17Darn...no web spinner for the dude in my epic...ah well, I'll find a way... 186. Will we ever find out the powers of all the Toa Hagah's Rhotuka shield spinners? 196) No idea, because I have no idea if the other four will ever come into the storyline. 20Pity. That would be cool. 217. I'm sure this has been asked before, but what exactly does a Kahgarak look like? I know its powers, but what of its appearance? 227) Depends on where you are. If you are in Europe, you have already seen one in the January Club magazine. If you are in the US, I believe there was one in the March comic, and will be in the May comic as well. 23Wait a sec: I'm pretty sure there were no giant Visorak in any comics I've read: Must check... 248. Do all mutated Hordika grow in size? 258) No 26Hm. 279. Will we ever again hear of a Bionicle "soundtrack", like the Album promised a long time ago? 289) That depends entirely on if there is a record company interested in doing it. The last one fell through because the company we were dealing with changed management and the new management decided not to pursue the deal. 29Aha: so THAT'S what happened: 3010. Can you tell us if there are other creatures like the Zivon? 3110) My feeling is there is only one Zivon. 32Ah, but you notice he didn't mention any OTHER creatures...leaves plenty of room for possibility...
33Thank you, in advance, and I can't wait for the next book:
34All in all, a couple interesting things. My epic will benefit from this.

1Those are really good points, Gaaki. You're probably right on the Sentrakh one.
2And yeah, Mr. Farshtey's really good. Now we'll be left to scratch our heads and argue over the "loss" until December...
