1and greg has completely destroyed any hope of people wanting the mata in mata nui to mean spirit, since phantoka has spirit in it.
2Matoran could have a completely different language structure from ours. 3For example, they might have synonyms.

3Not sure if I can ask this, but is Vamprah male or female? The name seems feminine.
4Also, give the set designers my compliments. The new sets look completely amazing. I know one person can't make a big difference in this case, but I love orange as a stone color. I hope they continue it.

51) Male. 62) Thanks, I will pass it on -- I am sure they will enjoy hearing it.

1How would you compare the Shadow One and Makuta by personality?
2TSO is probably more aggressive, more in your face, than Makuta is -- Makuta is more a spider in the center of a web and more apt to use others for his purposes. TSO is a little less of a manipulator and more likely to just send DH to break you in two if you get in his way. TSO is also more interested in short-term gains and adding to his power, while Makuta thinks extremely long-term.

1Are there any plans for "original" Av-Matoran (painted in Av colours like Takanuva) or for a Takanuva set (I really hope for the second) ?
#10007
1Hey, I was curious about a few things...
21. In the OGD, someone posted a question about whether or not the second wave villians were also Makutas, and you responded with "You're assuming that every Makuta in the BOM is in next year's story -- when did I say that?". Does this mean that there are only eight Makuta in the BOM?
32. I also read (can't find the quote at the moment, sorry) that you mentioned Icarax as being a first wave set; can I get confirmation on that?
42b. Does this mean there are two store exclusives, or is Toa Ignika not one?
53. If Takanuva were to find the location of Artakha, would he be killed by the OoMN?
63b. Since Takanuva will be increasing in importance in the storyline, is it possible that he would be "re-armored" as well?
7Thanks for your time:

81) No, it means the opposite. The questioner was saying that because he counted seven Makuta sets next year, and the MoMN, that meant there must be only eight members. So I pointed out that we had never stated all the members would be in next year's story. 92) That's the situation to the best of my knowledge, yes. 102b) Ignika is not store-exclusive. I just confirmed that last week. 113) Knowing Takanuva's importance, the odds are they would find some way to stop/divert him before he ever got there so they wouldn't have to do that. 123b) Can't discuss this

13Nothing really new, but still worth posting...So Icarax seems to be this year's Nocturn. *hopes for another group of insanely early in-store pics from out of the blue...like Nocturn*

1Hi, I hope you could answer some questions :)
21)Which January set is your favorite?
32)Is Gavla a Matoran? 42b) If not, what species is she?
53) Do you like "The Simpsons"?
64) Can you give a description of Antroz's personality?
7Thanks :)

81) Vamprah 92) Yes 103) No, not really 114) I don't really want to start doing exhaustive descriptions of all the new characters, since that will leave folks with nothing to discover next year

#10010
1No doubt one in a slew of 2008 question messages...
21. I'm just wondering what the planned mask powers were for the Av-Matoran sets next year? Were names for them passed through legal?
32. Aside from the Matoran masks, will we see new mask powers?
43. At what time did the story team decide to feature the Nuva instead of a second Inika transformation?
54. Is 2001-2008 a whole meta-arc (mata-nui) with three smaller story arcs? 64a: is 2009 the beginning of a planned meta-arc, or just a story arc?
7Thanks, Greg. Also, I prefer the web serials to the novels- they've really kept the interest in the story going for me.

81) Most of the mask powers simply got changed to be powers the Matoran would have anyway, and no, we did not clear names through Legal for the masks, it never got that far. 92) Yes 103) September 2006, when the plans for the '08 story got changed dramatically. 114) I guess you could consider it that 124a) Can't discuss 2009

17some more questions :)
181) Is the other Toa Nuva (Tahu, Gali, Onua) going to be released in 2008? 192) Wich of all '08 Nuva is your favorite? 203) Is the '08 location The Mainland? 214) Does the Maniland have a name (like Voya Nui)? 225) Which legends-book are you writing now? 236) Which of the BIONICLE-Story.com serials are your favorite?

1The reason they were given unique masks was because the original intent was to allow Av-Matoran to use mask powers and to make the sets more valuable by having exclusive pieces. The former was later scrapped, the latter was not.

2Wow, that's really interesting. I would have never thought that you would consider giving Matoran the ability to activate mask powers. So what was the explaination for this going to be? Are the Av-Matoran mentally stronger and more disciplined than the other Matoran elements?
3Also, I saw this answer in the OGD

41) Most of the mask powers simply got changed to be powers the Matoran would have anyway, and no, we did not clear names through Legal for the masks, it never got that far.

5So do the Matoran actually have powers? Or are these just characteristics, like Ta-Matoran being resistant to heat, Ko- to cold, etc? Or are they just physical abilities that the individuals have, like being able to jump high, or withstand higher air pressures than normal, stuff like that?
6Thanks:

71) The Av-Matoran were the first Matoran ever created -- essentially, prototypes. And just like toy prototypes, they had abilities future versions did not. 82) That we will get into later on.

1Hello Greg, i have a question for you: 2Now that Voya-nui has flooded, what has become of the guardians of the Ignika?
3thank-you and goodbye
4Well, Brutaka is in the Pit, Axonn is in sealed chambers with the Matoran, and Umbra can turn into light, so he can't drown
5So, nothing happened to the actually significant ones.

1Those are the transparent "visors" first found in the Mahri, not Inika-style heads, so don't worry that much. 2Khote

3Under closer inspection, it is indeed. Thanks for pointing that out. It's still a dumb mask, but at least it's a mask.
Toa of Protodermis
4I think Inika heads were good, because it was a step forward for Bionicle. Of course there were some cons, like that new masks didn't have the possibility to be connected on the old head. I wouldn't mind at all if new version of Toa Nuva had similar heads.

5It was not a "step forward." It was a change for the sake of change. Not only did it remove one of the franchise's most iconic elements for no good reason, but it actually reduced functionality by making the masks unable to connect to anything. It was a bad move, and I'm sure LEGO agrees with me, or else they would have kept them on the Mahri and Nuva.

6You're assuming that every Bionicle fan on earth is a MOCer. You're wrong.

1No, ToP, "Can't discuss this" means he can't discuss it -- what fun would it be if we knew who all of the summer 2008 sets were in October 2007? That's a mistake you never want to make: no answer meaning "yes".

1Here's some questions on '08 I got just a couple of seconds ago.
2Hello, Greg. Now that the 2008 set pictures are out, I have some questions on them for you. I know you won't be able to anwser some of them, but here goes:
31)Are Galva, Kirop, and Radiak matoran expirimented on/mutated by the BoM? 42)Is there a storyline explanation for the nuva's mask shapes changing? 52A) If so what? 63) Is the Toa Ignika a body made by the mask of life for it to be able to move and fight? 74) If not for #3, how does the Toa Ignika control the MoLi? I thought only GBs and Great spirits could control it. 85)Is Icarax going to be a titan or a special edition set? 96) Is Icarax's krahkaan going to bew changed/revamped? 107) Do this years villans have anything to do with those Kratta-like things the Bom were making? 118) The canister villans are Makuta, right? 129) Do the nuva have the same tool, storyline-wise? 1310) So,besides the wings, this is what the nuva normally looked like (meaning they didn't go through a transformation, they just got some wings and launchers)? 1411) Why does Lewa need wings when he A. has the mask of levatation and B. uses his air katana for wings anyway?
15Thanks very much for your anwsers:
16~Shadow Rahkshi

171) They are Matoran, that's all I can say right now 182) Yes. You'll find out end of the year. 193) Again, not something I am going to discuss now. If I give away story now, there is nothing to discuss on here in January-February. 204) See answer to #3 215) Icarax is, I believe, a store-exclusive set. I do not know anything about his packaging. 226) No idea. 237) See answer to #3 248) Yes 259) No 2610) No, because their armor has upgraded. What they normally looked like was their 2002 form. 2711) Because he isn't carrying two air katana in 2008 and levitation is not a Mask of Flight. With just a Miru, the Makuta would fly rings around him.

2Greg has said that A. The small sets are all Matoran, and B. The Matoran in 2008 are Av-Matoran. Therefore, the evil small sets are Av-Matoran. He's also said there's a reason they look so strange, so we'll just have to wait and find out...

98) When will the MoMN be released? 10-8a) Will he be a titan?
119) Will the other villain canister sets in 08 be Makuta?
1210) Will all the Web Serials end together in one ending, or will they all have separate ending?
1311) Will the Toa Nuva have transformed by the end of the Gali Nuva blog?

141) Yes, the timeline got a bit screwed up :) He gets it after the events in the upcoming Nuva blog. My fault. 152) You'll find out next year 163) Later in 2008 174) See answer to #2 185) See answer to #2 196) Yes 207) No. I know of at least two first-half sets you have not seen yet, including one no one even knows the name of on here yet. 218) Not going to be a set next year. 229) Yes, for the most part 2310) Separate endings, most likely 2411) No. That happens at the end of Bionicle Legends #8

1This has to be the shortest response to a needlessly long question I've ever gotten from GregF.
2First off, extra large kudos have to be given here- both to the set designers, for doing an amazing job, and to yourself and the storyteam, for thinking of an intriguing storyline to unite all the sets and keep people interested in the line :)
3Just one question- Are the matoran next year Av-Matoran? I based this off your response to a previous member explaining that the matoran of 2008 got new masks because you and the storyteam originally planned on granting them the ability to use those masks, and the fact that matoran such as Photok, Solek and Radiak have a sort of "light motif" (Heheh- leitmotif) to their names.
4And on that note, are the matoran villains also Av-Matoran?
5Thanks, and keep up to good work:

6Yes and yes

11.why does radiak have four legs? 22.in a phantoka poster, pohatu uses his blades as propellers, is this possible for him ?
#10025
1You have to PM Greg using the link on the first page; he doesn't visit this topic.
2However, I can guess what his answers will most likely be:
31. This will be explained in 2008. (I think he answered like that to a similar question. Radiak is in fact an Av-Matoran, so you know.) 42. I believe it was stated that this is possible, hence Phantoka meaning "Spirits of the Air", because all three Toa Nuva in this half-year can (apparently) fly in some form.
5You might want to PM him for official answers anyway though.

1Sorry, but I was wondering a few things for a theory. 21. Makuta (our Makuta) attacked Mata Nui and made him fall asleep. Obviously, this leads to one of two conclusions: either Mata Nui is not omnicient (within his domain), or the attack was made in such a fashion as to prevent Mata Nui from stopping it, such as if the whole Matoran Universe was held hostage. Can you confirm one of these two conclusions? 32. Could Makuta (MoMN) trick Mata Nui into causing something immensly destructive or into directly furthering his plans? 43. Would Mata Nui kill the Makuta for attacking him? 54. Who would replace the Makuta? Would a new species be created? 65. Does Makuta (our Makuta) know the true nature of Mata Nui? 76. Could a Makuta "posess" Mata Nui like Makuta (MoMN) posessed Maxilos? 8Thank you:

91) I don't believe we ever said he was omniscient, so that answers your question. Mata Nui focuses on big picture, and relied on the Makuta and the Toa to deal with the day-to-day crises in his universe. Had he been paying attention to the small stuff, he wouldn't have fallen. 102) If Mata Nui was awake and conscious, I highly doubt it. Do you think Mata Nui would listen to anything Makuta had to say after this? 113) He certainly will make him pay, but death might be too merciful. 124) Who knows? That is something Mata Nui would have to decide when if and that time comes. 135) No. 146) Well, Makuta can possess living bodies that have no spirit or robots. Which description do you think applies to Mata Nui?

15Another theory down the drain...

11. Why do Piraka fight each other? 22.
34. Is the Ignika more powerful than Takutanuva? If so, then Takutanuva can rival the Ignika by ability, right?
44) Differently powered. Takutanuva, for example, can lift a massive stone door -- the Ignika cannot. Takutanuva had the powers of Takanuva and Makuta, but did not have control over life and death - the Ignika does.
5How do you explain "resurrection"?
63. Is "Mata Nui" the Great Spirit's giving name?
74. What does the Tahtorak has against the Skakdi?
81) Why do any villains fight each other? Because they tend to be selfish and violent people. 92) You mean Jaller's? He was actually given a good chunk of Makuta's life force, which basically destroyed Takutanuva. But Takutanuva could not have brought an inanimate object to life, where the Ignika can. Nor could Takutanuva just end someone's life by withdrawing the life force from it, where the Ignika can. 103) Yes 114) Well, if you were forced to serve as a mount for someone, you probably wouldn't be too thrilled with them either.

11. When he was a matoran, did Takua have the Ta-Matoan ability to withstand a degree of heat? It seems unlikely since he was an Av-Matoran.
22. Did Takua know that he was an Av-Motoran when he was on Metru-Nui?
33. If Av-Matoran could use mask powers, does that mean that Takua had strength?

41) No, because he's not a Ta-Matoran. 52) No. 63) Av-Matoran can't use mask powers, so point is moot.
71. If 'Maxuta' can use kanohi, why does he let Icarax wear the Krahkaan?

8Because he can't in Maxilos' body. Maxilos does not wear a mask, that's his face. Maxilos is a robot and does not have individual will, therefore it was not designed to be able to use mask powers.
91) Approximately how many Kraata/Rahkshi are in existence?
102) Makuta can't make too many Kraata or else their energy would be all used up,correct? 11a) If so, what is the maximum ammount of Kraata a Makuta can make?
123) Do all the Toa Hagah have the same type of body(Metru-styled)?
134) Are there other Toa Hagah besides the Rahaga(now Hagah)?
145) Do all Makuta have the same type of armor?
156) What kind of masks would the other Makuta wear (i.e. Icarax before the Krahkaan)?

161) No idea. 172) Probably varies based on the power level and endurance of that particular Makuta at that particular time. I have never worried about a maximum, since I didn't need to for story. It did seem in the movie as if just making six was hard on Makuta. 183) Yes 194) No. 205) They are all shapeshifters, so their armor can look very different. 216) I can't discuss that, because it is part of future story

1Some new info about the Matoran language. Don't worry, those of you who want "Mata" to mean spirit - you've still got a chance:
2You recently revealed that the word Phantoka meant "Spirits of the Air." We have seen the word for Spirit (Iden) and the prefix for Air (Le-), but neither of them are in that word. Was it just an oversight, or is it supposed to be one of the problems in translating?
3Example: In English, we just have one word, "be." But, in Spanish, there are two words, "estar" and "ser." Estar and ser both mean "to be" when translated into English, but have slightly different meanings in Spanish. Is that the situation, except with English and Matoran? Does Iden refer to the non-physical essence of a body, so does not factor appear in Phantoka, since the Spirit there refers more to beings? Same for Air - does the word for Air that starts with Le- just refer to Air as an element of nature that can be controlled by Toa?

4And in the language of the Inuit, there are something like a hundred words for snow.

1Hello Mr. Farshtey, I have a few questions on 2008 and the Phantoka.
21)Does "Phantoka" refer to the six canister sets in January only, or all the 12 canister sets?
32)Are the January canister sets called "Phantoka" because they can all fly?
43)Are all the small sets Matoran? 53 b )If not, what are they? 64)Are the three January villans Makuta, or are they servants?
75)When will there be any box images for the Nuva and three Matoran?
8Thanks:

91) Just January 102) Basically, Phantoka is a Matoran word meaning "spirits of the air" 113) Yes 124) Makuta 135) As far as I know, the images of the three January Nuva and Matoran are out already -- I have seen people commenting on here about them.

14Oh, so the Nuva and Makuta canisters are the same...
