71.) If they have Matoran versions of their Toa masks, well, they should know "Well, I WAS wearing a Huna, so now..." I understand that they might not be able to USE them, but in your books you make it sound like they don't know what their masks do. If there are Matoran versions around, they should at least know...
8Actually, no. We have no proof that the Huna, for example, ever existed as either a Noble or a Great Mask. All we know is that that mask shape existed as a Matoran mask. We have depicted Matoran wearing versions of the Noble Masks, yet Dume does not wear any of those masks -- and no one is wearing a mask that looks like his. Is it not possible that Matoran masks in Metru Nui were not all based on pre-existing Great or Noble masks?

12Again, you are assuming that all Matoran masks must be based on pre-existing Great or Noble mask shapes. These six Matoran were DESTINED to become Toa Metru, which is why their mask shapes are on the Toa disks. Those shapes are not there because those masks existed in the past as Great Masks.
133.) In that case, Matoran should wear Matoran versions of Kirils and nearly all the other masks we don't know about, like what an Enlarge mask would look like... which leads me to question #4:
14Again, not every Matoran mask has to be based on a pre-existing Noble or Great Mask. The only known Great Mask we have seen on a Toa is Lhikan's Hau, yet the Matoran on Mata Nui were wearing Great Mask shapes long before they ever met the Toa Olda. So which came first, the Matoran mask or the Great Mask, is a legitimate question.
154.) No Matoran on Mata Nui wear any masks like a Great Huna, Kiril, or anything. I know in the real world they weren't invented yet, but they should have them on Mata Nui.
16I have no idea what masks general Matoran are depicted as wearing in the film. Movie footage is guarded like Fort Knox.

175.) You say the Matoran wear Masks for Tahu and Co. but how do they know what they would wear? (Don't forget they wore Turaga type masks too.)

Given that they were wearing Toa Great Mask shapes before they ever met the Toa Olda, why then is it a problem that Vakama and crew were wearing Toa Metru mask shapes before they became Toa Metru? Where did the ideas for these mask shapes come from? Did they originate with the Matoran mask makers, or somewhere else? Do they come from carvings the mask makers may have seen from the dim past? Until we tell you where the shapes come from, you can't really say it is a contradiction. You don't have enough info yet.
196.) I thouhgt one power was kept to one shape, so again, why would a Noble Huna and Great Huna look different?

217) It varies. To make a set, the product designer has to design it .. if there are new elements involved, then new molds have to be made ... the parts have to be manufactured .. the packaging has to be designed ... it can take a while, though we are working to reduce the amount of time it takes.

4You wouldn't do that. If you wanted to make a Great Mask, you would combine two 8 disks. If you wanted to make a Noble mask, you would combine two 7 disks. You don't combine different power levels disks, there's no point. 5I meant would you get an inbetween power mask o it would be stronger than a noble but weaker than a Great. 63) If you combined more disks would the power of the mask increase?

4Greg: Illegal? No. Once you have bought a set, it's yours to do with what you want. If you are selling it for a certain price, and someone is willing to pay that price, that is their decision -- people do this on Ebay all the time, I'm sure. The only exception to this is LEGO employees -- we are not allowed to resell sets we buy at the company store.

For Ta-Metru and Onu-Metru it labels those spots (Great Furnace and Great Archive) but what are the others? For example, I think the Le-Metru white spot is the Moto-Hub. But I don't get the other ones purposes, unless they're disk stadiums or something like that.
34Po-Metru's is most likely a cargo terminal for airships, etc. Ga-Metru would be one of the universities, and Ko-Metru probably a main Knowledge Tower complex.

3518. And lastly (but certainly not leastly), how many Metru are going to be portrayed in the movie? I don't mean little clips of them, but how many Metru will they show that the Toa Metru have some action and adventure in?
36That's a tough one. Po-Metru and Ga-Metru and the Coliseum probably get the most screen time, plus there are some nice scenes in Ta-Metru early on. All of them get shown at some point, though.

58Well two things -- one, she is very clever. And two, the Rahkshi in MOL were acting under orders from Makuta and would risk anything to carry those orders out. The Rahkshi Nokama beats are not under orders, they are basically like wild animals, so they are not as strategic thinkers. You'll see the fight in The Darkness Below.

21.) Another mask question (don't worry, not Matoran): There are 6 of the 6 Great Mask varieties on Mata Nui: 6 Haus, Pakaris, Kakamas, Kaukaus, Mirus, and Akakus. My question is, why are those six varieties the only ones on the island? Why were there not any, say, Great Hunas or Great Kirils placed their instead/in addition?
3Well, here is what we do know -- we know that those masks had to have come from Metru Nui, most likely, because they could not be manufactured on Mata Nui. The reason there are no Great Hunas or Great Kirils is that most likely they were never manufactured on Metru Nui. Great Hunas did not exist there until Vakama had one, and we have no idea if a Great Kiril ever existed anyplace. Anyway, yes, you should be getting an explanation for this in the foreseeable future.

41b.) If your answer to #1 was "Don't know," or, "Can't answer it," will we EVER know?

2That's a tough one. Po-Metru and Ga-Metru and the Coliseum probably get the most screen time, plus there are some nice scenes in Ta-Metru early on. All of them get shown at some point, though.

3That'll be nice, considering Ga-Koro and Po-Koro were left out of Mask of Light entirely.

I don't come up with extensive backgrounds for these things -- I throw them out as story hooks to give the fan base something to play around with, or for me to come back to some time in the future. I feel that the more little things like that I can create, the richer the universe feels.
53. What are the airships on Metru Nui used for? Are they purely cargo transport, or do they have other uses? 6Pretty much cargo transport only.

7One kind of looks like a big mech, and one looks like a big spider kind of thing. They have neat powers though. 8Oooh. Vahki mech. sounds good to me.
93.)The Toa Metru don't get to do their thing in Metru Nui for very long, do they? I mean, they don't seem to get to stay around long enough, for the Matoran to make copies of their masks, since the Matoran on Mata Nui don't have any Great Hunas or whatnot.
10Not so much a question of length of time spent as it is that the Matoran are pretty busy during the time they are there (see the movie).

114.)You said the third and fourth(I think) books take place during the last few scenes of the movie..could you give us like a chapter or page example in the Movie novelization to where these stories may take place? (like in between chapter 8 and 9, for example)
12Actually, I was referring to the fifth and sixth books. Unfortunately, I can't give you a specific spot because I don't have the printed manuscript of the movie book.
135.)Have you been able to build Krekka, and if so, is he on the level of the Exo-Toa in building, 14or if you haven't, but from what you've seen, would you say he's on par with the Exo-Toa? 15(Exo-Toa is one of my favorite larger Bioncle sets, Krekka looks like he could come in a really superemely close second.)
16It is a really nice set, but I have not gotten to build him as we don't have any samples here in Enfield. We are having a hard time just getting Vahki here because they are in the process of being packed.

176.)About the creation of sets, does lego decide that they need to make a design for a $3.99 price range, $7.99-$8.00 price range, $15.00 price range...and then cap it off at $30 or $40? 18Or does it just depend on the complexity or amount of pieces that determine the price range? (and I can understand the $30 price range sets not being released any longer, but why is that Lego doesn't release $15 Bionicle sets anymore? (the last being the Boxor, if I recall correctly.))
19I believe the way it is done for all product lines is that they decide on the number of products and the prices and then they build the models. The product designers pretty much know how big and how many pieces something needs to be for a given price. I don't know why they are not doing $15 sets any more, may simply be that the ones we did did not sell well. 20Darn. that's a shame. I really liked the Boxor based designs 21Greg

8Well, you make good points. Mata Nui is still awake at the beginning of '04, and he is asleep by its end and there is some connection with why the Matoran left Metru Nui, though that is not the only reason. Makuta did not send them there, though, and the Toa Metru were still Toa when they got there -- they didn't change to Turaga until after they were there.

32. Why do the Vahki try to harm the Toa, even when they are not harming the city in any why, shape, or form? 4Well, first, they aren't trying to hurt them, they are trying to pacify them. And second, you have things going on like Vakama breaking into the firepits, which is strictly forbidden, and Nuju and Whenua climbing Knowledge Towers without authorization. They are breaking the law. That's all the Vahki need to know.
53. How exactly do the Toa use their mask's powers, and is it mental, or some physical way? 6Using mask powers requires mental discipline -- I think of it as sort of like martial arts. You can do all the moves but without the mental training you won't accomplish much.
74. I heard a rumor about there eventually being noble Hau masks and is this true with the others aswell? And if so what kind of powers will they have, the old or new? 8That's just a rumor. The only masks planned for this year are Dume's mask and if we do a Lhikan set he would have a mask.
95. If the Turaga knew about the Bohrok creatures already, does this mean that they will be inhabiting Metru Nui aswell? 10No. Bohrok are in the Archives as exhibits. Bohrok have no programming with regard to Metru Nui and they are still sleeping at this point.

What I mean by this is say, for example, you were a worker in Metru-Nui whose primary job was to repair damaged buildings (a pretty necessary job with the Morbuzakh and Toa about). You have a trusty Level 6 Regeneration Kanoka that you use for almost all medium-scale damage repair. After many, many uses, will it run out of "juice" and need to be replaced? Or can it be used from now 'til the Mukau come home?
4As I understand it, there are 8 basic Kanoka powers. These can then be mixed in various ways to create new powers, and these lead to the powers we normally associate with Kanohi (shielding, illusion, etc.). Is it possible that powers we don't know of (that is, ones beside the 8 basics and the Kanohi powers) could be created from various combinations?
5Also, are Kanoka with powers other than the 8 basics quite common with the Matoran, or are they rather obscure?
6The Toa Disks' powers correspond to their Toa's element. Is their Toa the only one who can make the power of their Kanoka work? For example, could some random Matoran pick up Vakama's Toa Disk, shoot it at something, and set it ablaze?
7Are the Toa Disks ancient, made by someone unknown, much like the Great Disks are?
8Are the Toa Disks the only elemental-power Kanoka? Or, for example, do other disks of Fire, Water, etc. exist that Matoran can use?

41) Well, Toa stones were used to summon the "Toa Olda" to Mata Nui ... they also play a role in the Toa Metru becoming Toa in the movie. So they are special by nature, and you will find out a lot this year about how they are made.
